details

Highway 55 is a Major Highway from the Boise Metro area to access most areas in the Northwest of the state. This means that the Idaho Transportation Department will consider all culvert rehab options to not close this highway for any length of time.

problem

If the two-lane highway is closed it would cause detours of 4-5 hours depending on which direction and area a driver is trying to access.

In addition, the cost to dig and replace this culvert would have been significantly over budget for this project. For a handful of reasons, cost and traffic control included, only trenchless solutions were considered here.

solution

After reviewing options to rehabilitate the 60" CMP, the owner determined their quickest install, most cost-effective, and longest design life solution was Snap-Tite. 54" Snap-Tite was chosen as the liner to meet the hydraulic requirements and to ease the installation process for this deflected 60" CMP, a nose cone was cut on site.
