details

This Colorado road served as the one way in and one way out for several dozen homes. If the culvert were to fail, the emergency repair would've cost hundreds of thousands of dollars while not allowing any access to homeowners, guests, and emergency vehicles.

problem

As a result of the heavy rainfall in Spring 2023, the invert of this culvert was ripped up allowing water to undermine the culvert. One of the residents called it in for evaluation by the owner and upon further inspection, a joint on this 72" CMP was misaligned to 64", the invert was rusting and ripped up, and there were multiple deflections throughout the host pipe. Overall, not a condition the owner was comfortable with moving forward.

solution

Within 2 weeks, liner was delivered and the owner's operations crew was on site for the emergency self-install of 105' of 54" Snap-Tite. Given that it was their first self-install, they went with lighter 9' lay lengths as opposed to 24' lay lengths. Despite it being their first self-install and needing to snap 10 joints, the liner was installed in ~4 hours while only temporarily shutting down one lane. Bulkheads were built the next day and the grouting was completed later that month. The liner remains in perfect condition, handling the flow, and the owner will not need to worry about this culvert for another 100+ years.
