"PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Health Department estimates about 3 million gallons of sewage leaked after a 30-inch wastewater force main failed on Douglas Avenue on Tuesday, sending wastewater into a residential neighborhood and a river and prompting an ongoing cleanup effort and a health alert from authorities.

The sewage pipeline failed on Douglas Avenue near Rolfe Terrace, according to Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD). Douglas Avenue remains closed to through traffic between Rolfe Terrace and Wesley Street. Access to Bruce Place is being managed by on-site crews. Video posted on social media shows water gushing from the ground, flooding nearby properties."
